Virgin of Guadalupe Blue Pacific Abalone Pillboxes
Approx. 2 inches wide. These handcrafted German Silver and Blue Pacific abalone pillboxes are made in one of the world’s most recognized focal points for the creation of folk art, Taxco el Viejo, Guerrero Mexico.
The Virgin of Guadalupe is a Catholic title for Mary, the mother of Jesus, and a national symbol of Mexico. She is also a symbol of love and inclusion for many Latinos in the United States. According to Catholic belief, the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego, a peasant of Aztec descent, in Mexico City in 1531. She asked him to build a shrine in her honor, and the image of Mary became imprinted on the inside of his cloak. Abalone is deep-rooted in the vitality of the ocean and has a strong connection with nature and mother earth. Abalone produces a lustrous rainbow-like play of color that changes with the angle of view. Calming and soothing, abalone expresses the gentleness and beauty of the sea.
Every pillbox is one of a kind.
